North East Social Enterprise Festival 2018 at The Old Rectory
The North East Social Enterprise Festival 2018 is coming to Houghton-le-Spring this autumn. The Old Rectory and Rectory Park are hosting the festival where all the crafts, food and activities will be provided by social enterprises which operate and trade for the benefit of communities in the North East (so when they profit, our society profits). Even the fantastic logo was the result of the wonderfully creative team at Alpha Communications, a worker’s cooperative and a social enterprise. Visit the Old Rectory on Social Saturday and the penultimate day of the ancient festival of Houghton-le-Spring, Houghton feast to see a fantastic array of creative ways to combat social problems. Jewellery, music, animals, cakes, furniture, dance, jam, meditation, bakers and business skills will all be displayed.
North East Social Enterprise Festival 2016 at Sage, Gateshead
The Sage Gateshead was the host of the second North East Social Enterprise Festival on Saturday October 29th.
The North East Social Enterprise Festival returned in 2016, hosted by Sage, Gateshead. As a social enterprise in itself, Sage, Gateshead allowed the North East Social Enterprise Festival to grow and develop, and allowed the message of social enterprise to reach a greater audience. The event was a great success and a celebration of the growth of the social enterprise sector with a full day of live music by social enterprises in the North East.
Hive Radio – Community Arts Project North East
Hive Radio was at the North East Social Enterprise Festival 2016 to broadcast live from the event. They spoke to stall holders as well as representatives of the organisers of the event – Social Enterprise Acumen and The Sage. There was live entertainment on throughout the day and you will be able to hear some of this in the background of the interviews.
North East Social Enterprise Festival 2015 at Newcastle Race Course
On October 28th, 2015 Newcastle Race Course was the venue for the first ever North East Social Enterprise Festival. The Festival was a celebration of the breadth and growth of this sector.
Every activity, product and service available was provided by a Social Enterprise. Even the fantastic logo was the result of the wonderfully creative team at Alpha Communications, a worker’s cooperative and a social enterprise.
The event was made possible through the coordinated efforts of Social Enterprise Acumen CIC, Keepmoat, Your Homes Newcastle, UNW and Virgin Money amongst others. The Festival had numerous displays of the benefits of collaborative efforts and a fantastic array of creative ways to combat social problems. Puppets, robots, stilt walkers, drummers, artists, IT geeks, bakers and business skills were all being displayed. The Festival provided a platform for social entrepreneurs to demonstrate the tools they use to fulfil their desires to make their community better.
